My Own Cuisine

Coming from a background where both parents were excellent in the kitchen and presentation was key, I found that I have a tendency to gravitate to the more palatable presentations.

I don't do many desserts. I have to admit that I don't really have the patience of measuring everything like my daughter, mother, grandmother and aunts do. I'm from the school of a little bit of this and a little bit of that and add a little more if needed. So when we were in a bind for a dessert, I experimented with this and it came out pretty darn good!

I knew Christmas was around the corner when I would come home and the house was wafting with the aroma of baked ham. My mother would be baking the ham as gifts for family, friends and business associates. My husband and daughter added their own spin to it with the addition of brown sugar and apricot preserve.

Growing up, in a Catholic family on an island, it was impossible to get away from eating fish during Lent. Every Friday. Holy Week, though, my mother made it a rule that there will be no meat the whole week. Honestly, I think it was more because of the fact that she was not as big on meat and had a good excuse not to make it. My sister and I, we did not know the difference, so we rolled with it.
